Advising Services

Advisors at the Center for Exploratory Students help students as they make important decisions related to their academic progress at the University.
Below we've outlined some guidelines to help you understand how this partnership works and to make the most of your advising experiences.

Who Should See the Advisors at the Center for Exploratory Students?

ALL undergraduates who have not declared a major
ALL undergraduates who have declared but are not sure about their major
ALL undergraduates in the Center for Exploratory Students who need advising concerning their general education program
ALL undergraduates interested in the Interdisciplinary Studies Major (IDS)
ALL students interested in Pre-Health Professions
     ALL students interested in Pre-Law
ALL undergraduates interested in participating in the National Student Exchange Program
Student-Athletes in the Center for Exploratory Students or the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences

Advisors will:
review your university degree and general education requirements
assist you in the major exploration process by helping you identify your interests, values, skills and personality traits and use those to guide you to appropriate majors
review university policies and procedures and other important information with you that could significantly impact your degree program
approve the application of transfer credits (as well as AP, IB and CLEP) to your general education requirements
inform you of important dates and deadlines
refer you to the right source at UA if you have questions or concerns not related to academic advising

You are responsible for:

scheduling your own appointment and for arriving on time for the appointment
bringing your Student Academic Progress Report (SAPR) with you. You can access it on Student Link.
It contains your graduation requirements, course work completed, remaining requirements and other important information about your academic program.
completing any "homework" assigned as part of the major exploration process and following up with your advisor afterwards.

When should you see your advisor?

Center for Exploratory Students advisors want to see all their students at least once each semester.
While you are working to decide a major, we encourage you to seek advising more frequently.
